Words Will Never Be Able To Describe This Helicopter Ride In Alaska But These Photos Might
It officially took me 37 years to make it in a helicopter and my only regret is not doing it sooner. Even if I would have ridden in one before this I am confident that no other experience would have come remotely close to how incredible this one was.
We took off from the small town of Girdwood, Alaska. Stepping up to the chopper, my first observation was how small it was compared to what I expected. It was just the two of us and the captain- a very private experience. The hour and a half ride ended up being a little longer than it was supposed to because well, we’re fun and personable, what can I say?!
We booked the glacier landing tour with Alpine Air Alaska, coming in at a steep $569 per person. But I’m not going to lie- it was worth every penny! Some things are just once in a lifetime and truly worth splurging on and this is one of them, without a doubt.
As we soared through the mountains and into a clearing, we glanced down and discovered the edge of a glacier, completely stunned by God’s incredible creation. This image will be stuck in my brain forever and the coolest thing is that you truly cannot obtain this view from any other vantage point. And not only were we completely in awe of the scenery, but after we picked our jaws up off the floor we landed directly on top of the glacier!
We had about thirty minutes to get out and walk around, but I could have stayed there all day. The blue glacier pools were mostly all frozen over since we were there in October and it was starting to get pretty chilly, but they still provided an incredible photo opp, as you’ll see below!
Jordan and I took turns sitting up front because that was 100% the best place to be. It was his 40th birthday and he still let me have the good spot for the way back (he’s the best!)
Around every corner the views would change from icy glaciers to breathtaking terrain. We even saw moose and mountain goats roaming the mountainside.
We have been to some incredible places but I don’t think I have ever experienced beauty quite like this. If you ever get the chance to visit Alaska this needs to be the first thing on your list of activities. It was undeniably one of the best experiences of my life so far! I hope Jordan’s photos gave you a little glimpse into the magic we experienced. Thanks for reading- now go look up flights to Alaska why don’t ya?!
